Permit appeal for Holy Innocents’ lighted field goes to Sandy Springs City Council

The Holy Innocents Episcopal School s Golden Bears would have a lighted field for homecoming if the permit was approved Photo by Vicki McGinty Credit Vicki McGinty The Sandy Springs City Council will hold a denial appeal over a special event permit requested by Holy Innocents Episcopal School for temporary lighting of a football field for its homecoming event and celebration The school applied for a special event permit on July according to the council s Aug meeting agenda The city s neighborhood growth director denied the school on July because special event permits are designed to allow for exceptions to regular ordinance standards Staff cannot use the process to override zoning conditions according to City Manager Eden Freeman s memo to the council The school appealed the denial to Freeman who upheld the neighborhood rise director s decision to deny the permit on Aug Holy Innocents required on Aug for an appeal to the city council The council voted to set the appeal hearing during its Sept meeting According to Freeman s memo Holy Innocents may submit evidence at the hearing addressing why the permit should be granted The city manager may address why the permit was denied The council must decide if the permit denial was justified Or it may reverse the previous decision and grant the permit with additional conditions as deemed to be justified by the evidence Rough Draft Atlanta reached out to the school for comment but has not heard back from school representatives The post Permit appeal for Holy Innocents lighted field goes to Sandy Springs City Council appeared first on Rough Draft Atlanta
